Glazed pottery

The Purpose of Pottery

Why am I
Just a jar of clay?
Plain, simple
Of mundane use
Rustic, rounded, rough

No decorative glaze
Or shine
That others
Would take notice

To cook or clean
Hold stew
Or wash
Or stash the cash
For a rainy day

Daily use
Brings wear and tear
Small cracks
Like scars
That mar the surface

Were I back
Upon the wheel
Would I ask
What are you
Making of me?

My place
Is not to
Nail scarred
Hands that form

I am a lump
Of clay
In Your hands
Mold and
Make of me
What you will.

My purpose
No matter what
I become
Is to serve you
Being fulfilled.

Just a jar of clay
I am today
Something greater
Dwells within.

Clay pot

But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? “Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’ ” Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?
‭‭Romans‬ ‭9:20-21‬ ‭NIV‬‬

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4:7‬ ‭NIV‬‬
